Seminar / Research
October 3, 2025
LabEx CerCoG is organizing its autumn research seminar
Notice to the entire CerCoG community OVERHEATED
LabEx CerCoG is pleased to invite you to its autumn scientific seminar, which will take place on Friday, October 3, 2025, starting at 1:45 PM!
This half-day of interdisciplinary reflection will be dedicated to the ethical challenges posed by the growing integration of emerging technologies and innovative therapies, including the use of artificial intelligence in the field of Brain & Cognition.
At a time when brain-computer interfaces, neuro-invasive therapies, and smart devices are entering clinical practice and research, new questions are arising:
How can we reconcile innovation with respect for the individual? What ethical boundaries should be drawn in the face of promises of enhancement or prediction? And what unprecedented forms of vulnerability might these technologies generate for human beings?
Three speakers from complementary disciplines — neuroscience, philosophy, sociology — will share their perspectives to plunge us into the heart of these burning debates.
- Éric Fourneret Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the ETHICS Laboratory, Catholic University of Lille Human/machine hybridization: agency and free will in question
- Perrine Seguin Medical Doctor and PhD in Neurosciences, University of Saint-Étienne Clinical investigations of emerging technologies in neurosciences: ethical questions in the field
- Thierry Menissier Professor at Université Grenoble Alpes and head of the Ethics & AI chair From an ethical standpoint, are emerging technologies in neurosciences innovations like any other?
Between promises of healing, risks of abuse, and societal upheavals, this will be an opportunity to collectively question the boundaries of the body, consciousness, and care in the era of these innovative technologies.
